On June 16, 2021, the Fairway Wholesale Lending team in Birmingham Alabama volunteered at the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama by donating their time to inspect and organize food. The organizations mission is to feed people in community and to help foster collaborative solutions to end hunger.
"Being able to serve is a gift," said Holly Mattson, VP of Fairway Wholesale Lending. "The Community Food Bank of Central Alabama is such a great way to give back to the community and spend time with our co-workers," said Al Hecklinski, SVP of Fairway Wholesale Lending.
How does food banking work?
The Community Food Bank of Central Alabama operates as a food distribution center. They purchase food from industry sources, and they receive surplus food from reclaimed local grocery stores. In turn, they distribute that food to 250+ nonprofits within the community. The agencies receive food from Community Food Bank and then distribute to those in need, free of charge.
